Vientiane: iHouse Guesthouse

The iHouse guesthouse is a friendly and convenient guesthouse in Vientiane, Laos. It is located conveniently downtown just north of the Scandinavian Bakery. We stayed for three nights in their standard room at a cost of about $26 a night after taxes. It included a double bed, hot water, A/C and a flat screen tv as well as breakfast.

The room we stayed in was very small and Annie – the lovely manager of iHouse – showed us a larger room in case we wanted to upgrade. The larger room was much nicer but we stuck with ours to save a few bucks on what we felt was already a pretty pricey affair.

Breakfast was a bit below average; tough bread with butter and jam. Honestly, for the money, I was really hoping for eggs or something more. We had read that Vientiane is quite expensive by Laos standards and our breakfast value seemed in line with that position.

A last point of disappointment was that we were not provided with towels. We have our own but again, given the price, we were hoping for more.

The iHouse is however quite new and clean as well as near the bakeries so if you skip on breakfast, there are great options down the street.

We did not spend a lot of time price shopping in Vientiane and certainly overpaid for what we needed. But I honestly can’t say if iHouse is out of line for Vientiane. If you are looking for good comfort and don’t mind a small room then this might be for you. I would have looked at other places if we were sticking around much longer in Vientiane however.
