Ho Chi Minh City: My My Arthouse

My My Arthouse is a popular backpacker destination when in Ho Chi Minh City. It’s clean, cheap and right in the heart of the action. It has a battery of computer stations as well as wifi in the rooms. We stayed there during the Christmas period in a standard double bed room with A/C, fan and TV, paying a little under $17 a night including taxes for a four night stay.

We also participated in a couple of the tours on offer at the guesthouse including the trip along the Mekong Delta for one day as well as the Cu Chi Tunnels. The Cu Chi Tunnels were very rewarding and good value while the tour of the Mekong felt very rushed and mostly involved going from one local food stall to the next. That said, we did enjoy the coconut candies we bought while on the Mekong tour.

The guesthouse itself is a cramped affair in layout. The rooms are a good size however so don’t be nervous when you first arrive. In terms of service, the mother and owner of the guesthouse was not in good condition when we visited and much of the work was being done by her daughter. I’m sure her daughter will do fine in the long run but you could tell there were some growing pains there. I wish them the best as they were both quite friendly if just a bit too busy.

While it wasn’t one of our favorites, it did provide good value where we needed it. I would recommend against taking the Mekong one day tour however and look for another option for better value. As a side note, if you do stay at My My Arthouse, I would suggest taking a dinner at a nearby restaurant called Bread And Butter. It is a lovely little cozy place run by an Australian and serves great food for a great price. A wonderful option if looking for something western and familiar perhaps.
