Vang Vieng: Champa Lao Bungalows

We stayed for 4 nights in Vang Vieng at the Champa Lao Bungalows in their riverside bungalow. It included a fan along with a manual flush toilet. It did include a hot water heater that, if set hot enough and the water flow low enough, produced hot water.

It also included a mosquito net which was helpful since the room was built using bamboo and thatch. I’m not sure how it would have held up in the rains but I am glad I didn’t have to find out.

All rooms included free breakfast. We had the omelette and baguette each morning although there were other options such as soup or jam baguette.

Wifi is available in the main lodge but not on the bungalow side, however we found if you kept your laptop raised while sitting in your hammock back at the bungalow, you could catch enough of a signal to do some basic surfing.

Be Warned

The one downside – and its a huge one – is the neighboring facilities. On the island are a couple of bars that live it large at night. And I mean large. And late. If you want to get any real sleep here – which most 18 to 28 year old males in Vang Vieng didn’t seem to want to do – then you are going to need earplugs. There’s just not much hope otherwise.

At $12 a night, it was good value but the nightly party scene should seriously make anyone pondering a stay consider their abilities to sleep under loud noise conditions.
